Luckily, each of these powerful creatures are uncommon even in their home environment, and are almost nonexistent above the Abyss. While most maps' abyssal depths and critical depths are at 4000-5000m, the actual depth of these varies on the size of the map - if a map forces you to navigate lots of vertical caverns, the abyssal depths and critical depths will be deeper than usual (usually 4500-5500m) whereas if a map forces you to navigate long, horizontal caverns, the abyssal and critical depths will be higher.ĭespite the intense pressure of such an environment, the Abyss is not totally unlivable, as it is home to three different creatures: the quick and deadly Coelanth (legacy creature), the bulky yet fast Charybdis and the apocalyptic Endworm. The sea floor is mostly useless, as it lies far beyond critical depth, further than any ship will be able to survive unharmed. However, there is nothing to be found here. If intending to explore critical depth, players are advised to move the submarine slowly, as hull breaches occur more often when moving quickly.Ĭontrary to popular belief, the Abyss does have a bottom - if a submarine goes far down enough, it'll encounter the barren sea floor. For this reason, submarines designed for deep-Abyss travel should always be fitted with exterior lights, as well as extra layers of hull. The most notable sign that you are approaching critical depth is when all the exterior lights on the submarine begin to flicker, then shatter. Additionally, heavy ordinance such as Nuclear Shells should be brought in high quantity, preferably filled with explosives.įor obvious reasons, it is recommended to avoid going to these depths at all, much less diving in them.ĭepths below ~3500 are commonly referred to as "Critical Depth", where at any moment, the submarine may spontaneously implode, destroying nearly all structures in the sub and killing most of the crew. Past these depths multiple walls on the outer layers are advised, and all windows should be replaced with walls. It should be noted, with adequate protection of the hull, most submarines can survive up to depths of ~2000m before flooding. The pressure there is such that diving suits offer no adequate protection, and even the hull of the submarine take continual damage while in this zone the deeper the submarine is in the abyss, the faster it breaks. In Barotrauma, the Abyss is defined as the layer of the ocean from 4000m depth and deeper, until the bottom of the levels. ![]() Notes: Needs to be up to date with the current steam version.With nothing else to do, I eventually just opened the outer door and drowned, embarrassed both for trying to kill him and doing such a terrible job at it. He dumped me into the airlock and locked the inner door. After quickly realizing I was injecting meds into him-my first injection only took away a sliver of his health and my second immediately healed it back up-he immediately battered me with his stun stick and wordlessly dragged me away, clubbing me as we went. This was not his first rodeo, though (it was only my second rodeo). I decided to just take a bunch of medical injections from the sickbay and stick as much medicine into my target as I could, hoping he'd have an adverse reaction, or maybe just pass out until I could figure out a better way to murder him. I searched lockers and compartments looking for any weapons I could use, but couldn't find anything (except a clown mask, which I naturally put on). It was only me and one other player on this particular voyage, and I'd signed on as a medic. Barotrauma has a multiplayer option called Traitor, which when activated will give certain crewmembers a secret task to murder another player during the voyage. Yes, I attempted to inject a crewmate with poison and kill him, but I'm not a griefer! I swear. ![]()
